Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome

she’s always

on time

so if you’re

running behind

you won’t see her

at all

and if there’s a lull

between minutes

she’ll be halfway

back to the door

by the time

you roll out

but if you’re

on time

that day

she will have just

come out

and started walking

down her driveway

all adult-like

and by the time

you pass by

she’ll be slowly

bending down

to pick up

the paper

like it was important

something she did

all her own

without any help

from anyone

not even the one

in the house

standing there

at the window
